Thankful for 2 thanksgivings...

It was Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday. Kelly and I decided to make our first proper thanksgiving dinner at home. We were thankful to have my mom up to help guide and laugh with us on the lovely relaxing holiday.

Cornish game....what?!?!? Kel wonders ..."where's the turkey???"
Kitchen duties in full swing... cleaning the birds and making big speeches...
Look at these beautiful ladies! Stuffed and all...

Gathering up the Roasted Veggies into a serving bowl, sis-in-law Ang's recipe.
Sitting down for our meal that could have fed 8, but just fed 3... plus plenty of the good stuff... the leftovers that you love almost as much as the original meal.

Game on! Its holiday season!

The love of fall

A ferry boat ride in the sun to Victoria with Sheila. It was an awesome mini vacation! Fun shopping, good coffees, and chats...

yes this was the ferry boat ride back to Vancouver in late, late, late September. Amazing...

... celebrating the first weekend of October with friends, trying to invoke Oktoberfest spirit, with pumpkins, sausages, cabbage, potato pankakes, cider and....and oh yeah it was 60 degrees outside, at nearly 7 oclock. Amazing...

Red October sky. Amazing... :O)

pre-fall weekend

Had a blast with Kelly's cousins, Jenny and James when they came over for dinner one night.

Went to H is for Henrys pre-birth bash at the Smiths in Seattle.

Katie and Kelly, both just about ready to meet the new little guys in their lives.
Clara and her little Jocefin

We actually spent some time as tourists in DT seattle, Kelly had Ivars for the first time, walked around pioneer square, did some shopping, had an excellent mocha...it was a fun, spontaneous few hours in a very fun, friend filled weekend.

Rest from Labour

I know I spelled labour the english way- but humour me(wow this could get bad :o).
Anyway... Justin came up via Amtrak for the long weekend. We slept in, ate good food, sailed, biked, played games, watched games, and truly enjoyed the weekend. Went back to work Tuesday feeling rejuvinated.

Whew! what a way to kick off the week of my birthday- I got to see so many friends and family that I hadn't seen for many moons, get big hugs and catch up---

First, off to Montana where my cousin Stephanie married Zach. Lovely, adorable couple and beautiful wedding. It was so so so good to see many of my Thompson relatives there.

Upon journeying back into Washington I was reunited with my sister and even more of the Thompson clan. All suprised me with a birthday party on Sunday; Hip Hip Hooray! - I love suprises!

The day I lost my wedding ring

It was a nice day to be at the beach, soaking up the rays, playing in the surf---until I was in, waist deep and I felt my wedding band slip down my finger and into the sea. At this point it was about 4 o'clock on a very busy beach, I called out to Kelly, to please go find some goggles, asap...and I tried to not say as loud "because I just dropped my ring". Also to the rescue came Ryan and Sheila, who had just showed up- what a way to spend the afternoon- diving for my ring. We ended up getting to use 2 pairs of goggles, each taking turns diving. The tide was coming in and it was very difficult to see through the murky water much less troll along the bottom, being such salty water. At about 6:30 we decided it was all we could do, we had to make a decision, go get a metal detector and come back at low tide (10:30) or just cut our losses, do a craiglist ad and hope for the best. Well evidently the group I was with was not interested in quiting. Kelly and Ryan were going to see if trusty Canadian Tire had a metal detector is stock. Hello- Bounty Hunter "Treasure Detector"! They practiced a bit after dinner; we went and got headlamps and gardening shovels from home- then we headed out once again.

I remembered the camera and I will let the photos tell the last hour and a half of the story.
The beach at dusk as we arrived..we all walked straight into the water- just hoping it might magically be right there on top of the sandy shore...
The treasure detecting, scooping and shoveling began- it was 9:30 pm...

At 10:10pm we had already collected a bounty: an 80's earing, a fishing weight, a pop tab, $.35(not pictured), and a piece of tin.
it got darker and colder...
I felt defeated- I sat with Sheila on the shore, trying just to appreciate the adventure of this story even though we hadn't found the ring...then one last sweep, its 10:23- tide will be at its lowest in 7 minutes. Kelly and Ryan decide to go right back to the spot we best remembered I was standing. Kelly got a beep on the treasure detector- Ryan grabs a scoop of sand, sifts through and then we hear "oh -oh-ooooh ooooooh " from both the boys...and we knew...VICTORY!!!!
Myself and the treasure hunter team that found the jewels- big smiles all around!

Boys rehashing the "find". On an interesting note*Ryan's skills as a treasure hunter weren't diminished a bit by his cast, actually neither were his diving skills earlier in the day considering- he had to keep his arm above water(with help from Sheila), while he scoured the sea floor.

Celebrating afterwards...ring looking sparkly and new from the sand polish it had received for over 6 hours earlier that day.

I don't want to complain about this heat, so I won't. Instead I will share some of the things that I love about this summer. Iced sun tea, the purr of our little fan, trying just about everything on the BBQ, weekday evenings at the beach w/ a cold drink, our car's retractable roof, how fast the laundry dries, seeing family and friends, and the best part---its not over yet!!!

Reading magazines and lounging with M&D last weekend, after BBQ dinner. Earlier we had caught the matinée of the hilarious and locally written "Number 14" at Granville Island Theatre, ingenious idea- the entire play takes place on a bus, the old #14 that went down Hastings St.
We have taken out a few walls and opened up our living space--- there is more work to be done, wiring, etc., but we are already really enjoying the extra space.
